πŸ– Make the Connection πŸ‘

Compassion is ethical intelligence:
it is the capacity to make connections
and the consequent urge to act
to relieve the suffering of others.

Will Tuttle

I stopped eating meat some 50 years ago
when I looked at the pork chop on my plate
and thought: this represents fear, pain, death.

Jane Goodall

Don't talk of love and peace when you
have a dead animal on your plate.

Socrates

I am determined not to kill, not to let others kill,
and not to support any act of killing in the world.
We should consume in such a way that helps
to reduce the suffering of living beings.
And that way we can preserve
compassion in our hearts.

Thich Nhat Hanh

Non-violence, which is the quality of the heart,
cannot come by an appeal to the brain.

Mahatma Gandhi

Until he extends his circle of compassion
to include all living creatures,
man will not himself find peace.

Albert Schweitzer

A person with the capacity but not the inclination
to cease suffering is morally incomplete.

Mirko Bagaric

Compassion, in which all ethics must take root,
can only attain its full breadth and depth
if it embraces all living creatures and
does not limit itself to mankind.

Albert Schweitzer

When a child kills an animal for fun,
we fear mental illness.
When an adult with the capacity to reason
does it, we call it 'sport'.

Seth MacFarlane

Compassion is an unstable emotion.
It needs to be translated into action,
or it withers.

Susan Sontag

What do they know - all these scholars, all these
philosophers, all the leaders of the world -
about such as you? They have convinced
themselves that man, the worst transgressor
of all the species, is the crown of creation.
All other creatures were created merely to
provide him with food, pelts,
to be tormented, exterminated.

Isaac Bashevis Singer

Animals and humans suffer and die alike.
Violence causes the same pain, the same
spilling of blood, the same stench of death,
the same arrogant, cruel, and brutal taking
of life. We don't have to be part of it.

Dick Gregory

Violence begins with the fork.
Mahatma Gandhi

The line separating good and evil passes
not through states, nor between political
parties either - but right through
every human heart.

Alexandr Solzhenitsyn

I felt that if I were to continue to live
in this world I had to do what I could
to reduce the suffering around me,
or at the very least, not to add to it....
I gave up eating meat.
I have not eaten it since.

Nick Cave

Work, Work, Work...

The quality of your work reflects the quality
of your character. Focus on excellence in
all you do, and success will follow.

Epictetus

Don't climb mountains so that people
can see you. Climb mountains so
that you can see the world.

David McCullough Jr.

Don't pray for lighter burdens,
but for stronger backs.

Buddha

All anyone really requires to start a successful
career is a sound mind, a healthy body,
and a genuine desire to be as much service
as possible to as many as possible.

Napoleon Hill

No matter how isolated you are and how
lonely you feel, if you do your work truly
and conscientiously, unknown friends
will come and seek you.

Carl Jung

No one can ride on the back
of a man unless it is bent.

Mahatma Gandhi

Criticism fulfils the same function as pain
in the human body. It calls attention to
an unhealthy state of things.

Winston Churchill

A day of worry is more exhausting
than a week of work.

John Lubbock

Your work is going to fill a large part of your life,
and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do
what you believe is great work. And
the only way to do great work
is to love what you do.

Steve Jobs

My hunger is not for success,
it is for excellence.

Mike Krzyzewski

The worst thing that we can do as women
is not stand up for each other, and this is
something we can practice every day,
no matter where we are and what we do
women sticking up for other women,
choosing to protect and celebrate each other
instead of competing or critizing each other.

How to Travel

The purpose is not the destination
but the journey itself.

I shall not live in vain.

We can't connect with someone unless we're

If there's no autonomy between people,

War on Women

Before you think good or evil, who are you?
Huineng

Ultimately evil is done not so much by evil people,
but by good people who do not know themselves
and who do not probe deeply.

Reinhold Niebuhr

The reasonable man adapts himself to the world;
the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt
the world to himself. Therefore all progress
depends on the unreasonable man.

George Bernard Shaw

I sometimes try to imagine what would have
happened if we'd known the bonobo first
and the chimpanzee only later - or not at all.
The discussion about human evolution might not
revolve as much around violence, warfare and
male dominance, but rather around sexuality,
empathy, caring and cooperation.

Frans de Waal

The arc of the moral universe is long,
but it bends towards justice.

Martin Luther King, Jr.

It is impossible to think of the welfare of
the world unless the condition of women
is improved. It is not possible for a bird
to fly on only one wing.

Swami Vivekananda

The number of people with any criteria for
distinguishing between good and evil
is very small.

T.S. Eliot

One's life has value so long as one attributes
value to the life of others, by means of love,
friendship, indignation and compassion.

Simone de Beauvoir

I think there is a connection between the way
we treat animals and the way we treat people
who are at the bottom of the hierarchy.

Angela Davis

The question is not whether we will be extremists,
but what kind of extremists we will be. For hate
or for love? For the preservation of injustice
or for the extension of justice?

Martin Luther King, Jr.

When I despair, I remember that all through
history the way of truth and love has always
won. There have been tyrants and murderers
and for a time they seem invincible, but in
the end they always fall... think of it, always.

Transform Yourself πŸ¦‹

Before, my role model was the vision

of the woman I wanted to become.

Then I became that woman.

you'll be the way you act.

to the happiness of others.

Mary Shelley

A seed grows with no sound, but a tree falls

Ja visst gΓΆr det ont nΓ€r knoppar brister.
VarfΓΆr skulle annars vΓ₯ren tveka?
VarfΓΆr skulle all vΓ₯r heta lΓ€ngtan

DΓ₯, nΓ€r ingen rΓ€dsla lΓ€ngre hΓ₯ller,
faller i ett glitter kvistens droppar,
glΓΆmmer att de Γ€ngslades fΓΆr fΓ€rden -
kΓ€nner en sekund sin stΓΆrsta trygghet,
vilar i den tillit som skapar vΓ€rlden.

πŸ”ͺFrom Slaughter to Sanctuary ❤️

We are all better off in a sanctuary
instead of in a slaughterhouse.

Gene Baur

I expected to find monsters.
But I found something far more terrifying.
I found how easily humans can be
conditioned to do monstrous things.

Abraham Lincoln

I greet you from the other side
of sorrow and despair,
with a love so vast and shattered
it will reach you everywhere.

Leonard Cohen

Would this habit of eating animals not require
that we slaughter animals that we knew
as individuals, and in whose eyes
we could gaze and see ourselves reflected,
only a few hours before our meal?

Socrates

Your legacy is every life you've ever touched.
Maya Angelou

The secret of change is to focus all of
your energy, not on fighting the old,
but on building the new.

Socrates

There are two ways through life:
the way of Nature and the way of Grace.
You have to decide which one you'll follow.

Terrence Malick

Human beings are not machines,
and however powerful the pressure to conform,
they sometimes are so moved by what
they see as injustice that they dare
to declare their independence.
In that historical possibility lies hope.

Howard Zinn

By killing, man suppresses in himself,
unnecessarily, the highest spiritual capacity,
that of sympathy and pity towards living
creatures like himself, and by violating
his own feelings becomes cruel.

Leo Tolstoy

He who sows the seed of murder and pain
cannot reap joy and love.

Pythagoras

As long as man continues to be the ruthless
destroyer of other living beings he will never
know health or peace. For as long as men
massacre animals, they will kill each other.

Pythagoras

As long as people will shed the blood of innocent
creatures there can be no peace, no liberty,
no harmony between people.
Slaughter and justice cannot dwell together.

Isaac Bashevis Singer

For to be free is not merely to cast off
one's chains, but to live in a way
that respects and enhances
the freedom of others.

Nelson Mandela

Fredrick Douglass

You can always count on Americans to do
the right thing - after they've tried
everything else.

First, it is ridiculed.
Second, it is violently opposed.
Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.

Arthur Schopenhauer

It's so clear that you have to cherish everyone.
I think that's what I get from these older black

that every flower is to bloom.

Alice Walker

The greatest crime against the black man
was not slavery or lynching, but that he was
taught to wear a mask of self-hate and self-doubt.

Malcolm X

Give people a common enemy, and you will give
them a common identity. Deprive them of an
enemy and you will deprive them of the crutch
by which they know who they are.

How to Talk to Meat-Eaters

I cannot teach anybody anything.
I can only make them think.

Socrates

Idealism without pragmatism is impotent.
Pragmatism without idealism is meaningless.
The key... is pragmatic idealism.

Richar M. Nixon

When dealing with people, remember you are
not dealing with creatures of logic,
but creatures of emotion.

Dale Carnegie

The superior man thinks of virtue;
the common man thinks of comfort.

Confucius

The best way to convince someone is by
making him realize that what you speak
came from his own mind.

Alan Watts

The most difficult subjects can be explained
to the most slow-witted man if he has not
formed any idea of them already; but
the simplest thing cannot be made clear
to the most intelligent man if he is firmly
persuaded that he knows already,
without a shadow of doubt,
what is laid before him.

Leo Tolstoy

Hypocrisy in anything whatever may deceive
the cleverest and most penetrating man,
but the least wide-awake of children
recognizes it, and is revolted by it,
however ingeniously it may be disguised.

Leo Tolstoy

to have been influenced by what you said.

C.S. Lewis

People may hear your words,
but they feel your attitude.

John C. Maxwell

First, they ignore you, then they laugh at you,
then they fight you, then you win.

Mahatma Gandhi

The changes in our life must come from
the impossibility to live otherwise than to
the demands of our conscience, not from our
mental resolution to try a new form of life.

Leo Tolstoy

In order for the truth to be heard, it must
be spoken with love. No matter how wise
and true a spoken word is it will not be
conveyed to someone if it's spoken in anger.

Leo Tolstoy
